Project Summary: This leverage only project plans to provide Vehicle Replacement Vouchers for eligible residents to assist with a trade-in of their 1999 or older vehicle for a more energy-efficient conventional, electric, or hybrid vehicle.

Is your car 1999 or older & failing emissions?

We can help you retire your older vehicle & replace it with a 2014 or newer model!

  • You must be a San Joaquin Valley resident with a valid California driver’s license.
  • You must own car under your name for at least 6 months.
  • You must prove operation of vehicle in CA for past 2 years.
  • To receive funds for hybrids and electric vehicles, you must live in a identified Disadvantaged Community ZIP code.
  • To receive the maximum incentives, your household income cannot exceed 225% of Federal Poverty Income Guidelines for 2021.
  • Your new vehicle must be purchased at one of participating dealerships including: CarMax Modesto, Fresno, & Bakersfield; Michael Automotive Center Fresno; Rose

FAQs

You may purchase vehicles that meet these qualifications:

  • Conventional – Gas powered vehicle meeting program fuel economy standards (example Honda Accord)
  • Hybrid 20+ – Gas powered and electric motor vehicle with fuel economy from 20 MPG – 34 MPG (example Toyota Camry hybrid)
  • Hybrid 35+ – Gas powered and electric motor vehicle with fuel economy with at least 35 MPG (example Toyota Prius hybrid)
  • PHEV/EV – Plug In Hybrid Electric Vehicle utilizes power from a battery and an onboard gas powered generator (example Chevy Volt); Electric Vehicle is purely powered by a battery charged from an external electrical source ( example Nissan Leaf)

The vouchers range from $4,000 to $9,500 depending on the replacement vehicle selected

Yes, the vehicle must be operational, have current registration, and have been owned for at least six months.
